After the initial insertion of acupuncture needles, there is no pain and the patient usually reports deep relaxation and rest during the treatment.    Acupuncture needles are very thin and solid and they are made of stainless steel. The point of the needle is smooth (Acupuncture needles are solid and not hollow like hypodermic needles. Hollow needles increase the risk of skin bruising and skin irritation.), and insertion through the skin is not as painful as injections or blood sampling. At Agape Acupuncture, Inc. we use disposable needles only! Guaranteed!

THE HISTORY OF ACUPUNCTURE

The history of acupuncture is impressive. It is the world’s oldest existing medical system. “More people have been treated with acupuncture and herbs than ALL systems of medicine combined.” according to Dr. David Brestler, director of UCLA’s Pain Center. The 5,000 year old science and art of acupuncture and it effectiveness on our health has an extensive background and progression. It was utilized in China 3000 years before Christ. The term itself was derived by the 15th century Jesuit Missionaries in China from the Latin words “acus” meaning needle and “ puncture” meaning puncture. The development of acupuncture by clinical research in physiology, biochemistry, and pharmacology, to clarify, it is a collaboration of modern international medical science with the constitution of acupuncture medicine.

In March of 1996, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) of the United States of America gave approval for acupuncture as a medical treatment method. Due to vast request and scientific research, the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in April, 1997, integrated acupuncture into the conventional medicine arena as a part of mainstream medicine. In July of 1997, Senate Bill 212 was signed into law, which indefinitely includes acupuncturist in the definition of “physician” for the treatment of injured employees entitled to worker’s compensation medical benefits. SB 212 will ensure that patients have the freedom to choose treatment from a healthcare provider that is appropriate for their needs. In November, 1997 the American Health Counsel publicly claimed acupuncture to be good for the treatment of pain, nausea, asthma, and arthritis. The science and art of acupuncture has substantiated the validity of its procedure to be a beneficial and viable medicine.

THE BENEFITS OF ACUPUNCTURE In going over historical facts about acupuncture treatment and effects on the human body, acupuncture has been well known for its reconciliation of our design and for normal functioning of the body. It benefits, promotes, maintains and restores health and well being and increases the body’s ability to protect itself. As for the affect on pain management that acupuncture has on the body, it is now used as the only anesthesia in surgical operations. There has been more than two million surgical operation performed using acupuncture as an anesthesia.   Acupuncture conforms the design of our body to the way it should function. For instance constipation and diarrhea are two extremes of abnormal bowel movement. Acupuncture application of the needles to treat both of these conditions are placed in the same area to bring healing to the body. Modern medicine has to use two different medication one to stop the diarrhea and another to cause a bowel movement to happen. The uses of acupuncture to bring on a natural healing process by working with the body, instead of on the body is both safe and effective.   In today’s society, many people have been told to learn to live with certain ailments. It has been suggested for some people to seek out a psychiatrist, in the case of physiological disorders where there is no finding of a disorder and therefore no method of treatment can be applied, even when the patient describes the pain or discomfort. We now know that something can be done, and it is with the proper administration of acupuncture and natural medicine. Where other methods have not worked, acupuncture has brought complete healing to many people Acupuncture treats both element, the cause, and the symptoms of the illness. Because no one should have to just live with there ailment any more.

These chemicals will either change the experience of pain, or they will trigger the release of other chemicals and hormones which influence the body's own internal regulating system. The improved energy and biochemical balance produced by acupuncture results in stimulation of the body's own natural healing abilities, and in promoting physical and emotional well-being.
